🚔 WOODBRIDGE POLICE STOP LEADS TO FEDERAL COCAINE CONVICTIONS FOR TWO BROTHERS ⚖️🚨

Two Florida brothers have been convicted in federal court after a 2023 traffic stop in Woodbridge led investigators to the discovery of approximately 49 kilograms of cocaine, according to federal prosecutors.

Nelson Santos Munoz, 33, and Amauris Santos Munoz, 34, both of Miami, Florida, were found guilty Monday, September 21, of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The convictions followed an eight day jury trial before U.S. District Judge Zahid Quraishi in federal court in Trenton.

🚨 What Happened

On January 26, 2023, law enforcement officers stopped a vehicle in Woodbridge that was occupied by three people, including the two brothers.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators discovered approximately 49 kilograms of cocaine concealed inside three suitcases and a backpack. Prosecutors said the cocaine was individually packaged and wrapped in cellophane or plastic, with coffee grounds placed between the layers.

Investigators also reviewed communications from the brothers' cell phones. According to prosecutors, the evidence showed that the brothers had traveled to the Dominican Republic, where they allegedly arranged to obtain cocaine and transport it into the United States for distribution.

After the cocaine was brought into the country, prosecutors said the brothers traveled from Florida to New Jersey with the drugs.

⚖️ Potential Sentences

Each conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with a maximum potential sentence of life imprisonment. Each count also carries a maximum fine of up to $10 million.

The brothers are scheduled to be sentenced on February 4, 2027.
