The Wildwood Police Department is mourning the sudden death of Patrolman Shawn Stimmel, a veteran officer who served the community for over 20 years. Stimmel previously worked as a school resource officer and was a well-known local resident.
📍 WILDWOOD, NJ — The Wildwood Police Department is mourning the sudden passing of Patrolman Shawn Stimmel, Badge #365, a longtime member of the department who dedicated more than two decades to serving the Wildwood community.
Stimmel began his law enforcement career with the Wildwood Police Department in 2001. Throughout his career, he served in numerous roles, including the Patrol Division, Community Policing/Bike Unit, Field Training Unit and as a School Resource Officer in the Wildwood School District.
👮♂️ Beyond his professional accomplishments, colleagues remembered Stimmel for his personality and ability to bring laughter and positivity into even the most demanding moments of police work.
💙 The department described him as an officer whose lighthearted and genuine approach was a breath of fresh air to those around him.
Stimmel was also deeply connected to the Wildwoods community. He grew up locally, with his family owning and operating Bill’s Getty, and worked at Schumann’s Restaurant as a youth.
🙏 The Wildwood Police Department is asking the community to keep Shawn’s children, family and friends in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
The department also expressed its gratitude to members of the law enforcement community and local community who have reached out with messages of support.
