Long Beach Township police conducted an undercover traffic operation using officers dressed as pedestrians to catch drivers who failed to stop at crosswalks. The detail resulted in 38 traffic stops and one arrest as part of a summer safety initiative.
LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, NJ β August 2026 β Drivers who fail to stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks are being targeted by Long Beach Township police as part of an ongoing effort to improve pedestrian safety along the Jersey Shore.
On August 4, officers conducted a four-hour βCops in the Crosswalkβ traffic safety detail, with officers posing as pedestrians attempting to cross designated crosswalks.
According to the Long Beach Township Police Department, motorists who failed to stop for pedestrians were identified and subsequently stopped by a marked patrol vehicle.
π¨ The detail resulted in 38 traffic stops and one warrant arrest.
Police say the undercover-style operation is conducted in addition to routine patrols where officers monitor crosswalks and pedestrian activity.
