🚨 TWO PEOPLE KILLED IN CRASH FOLLOWING ENCOUNTER WITH NJ LAW ENFORCEMENT

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Two people were killed Saturday morning following a crash in Atlantic County that occurred during an encounter with law enforcement, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

The crash happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. near Route 50 and Third Street in Mays Landing. Authorities said two adults died in the collision. Their identities have not been released.

Officials have not yet provided details about what led up to the crash or the nature of the encounter with law enforcement. The circumstances remain under investigation.

Because the incident involved an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in an official capacity, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation under a 2019 state law requiring the Attorney General’s Office to investigate certain deaths occurring during encounters with law enforcement or while a person is in custody.

The investigation will be conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability.

Under state law, investigations of these incidents are presented to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence supports criminal charges against any involved officer or officers.
