Two Newark women died Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned and landed on their car on Interstate 78. New Jersey State Police say the truck driver attempted to avoid stopped traffic before crashing into the victims' vehicle.
NEWARK, N.J. — Two Newark women were killed Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer overturned onto their vehicle on Interstate 78, according to New Jersey State Police.
The crash happened at approximately 9:08 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-78 near milepost 56.8 in Newark.
Investigators say a Mack tractor-trailer hauling a utility trailer was traveling eastbound when it encountered a Chevrolet sedan that had stopped for traffic in the left lane.
The truck driver attempted an evasive maneuver, but the tractor-trailer overturned and landed on top of the Chevrolet.
💔 The occupants of the car, identified as driver Ayesha Wright and passenger Kendra Rouse, 25, both of Newark, suffered fatal injuries.
The tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries, authorities said.
🚔 The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
