🚒🔥 TWO-ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE DAMAGES WESTFIELD HOME 🚨
Firefighters from several Union County departments extinguished a two-alarm house fire on Maryland Street late Tuesday night. No one was injured, but officials declared the home uninhabitable after determining the accidental blaze started on the second floor.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Firefighters battled a two-alarm residential structure fire late Tuesday night on Maryland Street, with crews quickly bringing the blaze under control. No injuries were reported.
The Westfield Fire Department responded at approximately 10:54 p.m. on August 11, 2026, to the 200 block of Maryland Street. First-arriving crews found a two-story single-family home with heavy smoke coming from the rear of the second floor.
Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive interior attack while conducting a primary search to ensure everyone had evacuated safely. The main body of the fire was located on the second floor, where crews worked to suppress the flames.
The incident was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing additional fire companies from across Union County to assist. Off-duty Westfield firefighters were also recalled, while additional crews were staged at headquarters to provide coverage for other emergencies in town.
🚔 Westfield Police assisted with road closures, traffic control, crowd control and scene security.
🚑 The Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad and EMS resources from around the county assisted with firefighter rehabilitation.
The fire was placed under control at approximately 11:35 p.m., although firefighters remained on scene into the overnight hours.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature. The Westfield Construction Official subsequently determined the residence to be uninhabitable.
