🚔 Trenton Police Address Arrest Following Interaction With Immigration Activist

Trenton police arrested a Resistencia en Acción activist for eluding officers after she allegedly followed federal immigration agents while honking her horn. Authorities denied coordinating with federal agents, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office will now review the incident.
TRENTON, NJ — August 22, 2026 — The Trenton Police Department is providing additional details surrounding the August 20 arrest of an individual associated with Resistencia en Acción, following questions and public concern about the circumstances of the police interaction.
According to Trenton police, video posted online by the individual shows her following federal immigration officers for approximately 19 minutes while repeatedly sounding her vehicle’s horn. The woman stated in the video that she was using the horn to alert members of the community to the presence of immigration officers.
Police said officers encountered the activity while patrolling their assigned district. Their initial attention was reportedly drawn to activity in the roadway and a vehicle that was illegally parked and obstructing traffic.
Officers instructed the driver to move the vehicle. Police said the individual complied and continued driving, while the officers returned to their patrol vehicle and continued along the same street.
A short time later, officers traveling behind the vehicle said they observed multiple motor vehicle violations, including the driver failing to stop at several posted stop signs.
Based on those violations, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Police said the driver did not immediately stop after emergency lights and sirens were activated. The vehicle was eventually stopped, and the operator was arrested on a charge of eluding police.
The department emphasized that the initial interaction with the individual was related to the illegally parked vehicle and was separate from the subsequent traffic stop.
🚔 Police: No Coordination With ICE
The Trenton Police Department also stated that it did not coordinate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in connection with the incident or the arrest.
However, officials said that because of the circumstances and public concern surrounding the incident, the matter has been referred to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review.
The department further stated that Trenton police officers receive both roll-call and state-mandated training regarding New Jersey’s Immigrant Trust Directive and applicable state law. Police said the department follows those requirements, as well as a recently adopted city ordinance reflecting state law.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office review is expected to provide additional scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
