WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ β A 37-year-old Toms River man is facing theft and identity theft charges after police say he continued contacting former clients of a local business and allegedly convinced them to send him money even after he had been fired.
According to the Wall Township Police Department, Christopher T. Ross was fired from his position as a sales representative on February 9, 2026. Investigators allege Ross continued communicating with existing clients and represented himself as someone who could manage their accounts, despite no longer having access to those accounts.
Police said clients, unaware that Ross had been terminated, sent payments through Zelle believing the transactions were legitimate account-related payments.
During a multi-month investigation that began in April, detectives reportedly obtained information through subpoenas served on financial institutions. Authorities allege the payments were deposited into Rossβs personal bank account and subsequently used for personal expenses.
Police did not disclose the total amount of money allegedly taken.
Ross is charged with two counts of Theft by Deception and one count of Identity Theft.
According to police, arrest warrants were issued on July 3, and Ross was subsequently entered into law enforcement databases as wanted. He was arrested in Beachwood and turned over to Wall Township Police on August 15.
Ross was processed by Wall police before being transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, where he remained pending a court appearance.
The investigation was led by Detective Tyler Driscoll.
βοΈ All charges are allegations, and Ross is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
