Two Palisades Park police officers suffered minor injuries during a struggle with a Brooklyn man during a Friday night traffic stop on Route 46. The driver faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated.
PALISADES PARK, NJ ā A late-night traffic stop on Route 46 turned into a physical confrontation after police say the driver refused to cooperate with officers and resisted being taken into custody.
The incident happened shortly before midnight Friday when Patrol Detective Robert Then reportedly observed a red Chevrolet Camaro speeding eastbound on Route 46 near Abbott Avenue.
Police said the driver, identified as 34-year-old Edwin G. Sisalema-Guananga of Brooklyn, exited the vehicle during the stop. According to authorities, officers observed signs of possible intoxication and said the driver became confrontational after being given commands.
As officers attempted to place him under arrest, police said a struggle broke out.
š®āāļø Detective Then and Officer Julio Mancilla were both reportedly injured during the confrontation. Their injuries were described as minor, and both officers received treatment at the scene without requiring hospitalization.
Investigators also allege that Sisalema-Guananga provided officers with false identifying information multiple times during the encounter.

He was additionally issued motor vehicle summonses for alleged DWI, refusal to submit to a breath test, careless driving and driving without a license.
Sisalema-Guananga was released following the incident and is expected in Bergen County Superior Court on September 14.
