๐จ RAMAPO COLLEGE LOCKDOWN ENDS AFTER REPORTED GUN THREAT DEEMED UNFOUNDED ๐

Ramapo College lifted a campus lockdown Thursday night after police determined a report of a man with a gun was unfounded. Officers searched the Mahwah campus but found no active threat, marking the second false alarm at a Bergen County school that day.

A lockdown at Ramapo College in Mahwah was lifted Thursday night after police investigated a report of a possible armed person on campus and determined there was no active threat.
According to Mahwah police, the incident began around 5:46 p.m. when Ramapo College Public Safety received a report that a woman had screamed, โHe has a gun,โ near the Berrie Center for Performing Arts.
Mahwah Police responded to the campus and established a perimeter while officers investigated. ๐
Police later spoke with the person who originally reported hearing the statement. According to authorities, the complainant confirmed that she heard a woman make the statement but did not actually see anyone carrying a weapon. She left the area out of concern.
โ ๏ธ Out of an abundance of caution, authorities cleared buildings in the immediate area and deployed tactical teams to conduct searches. Officers also responded to several additional calls involving suspicious circumstances connected to the original report.
Police said those reports were also determined to be unfounded.
After searches were completed, the lockdown was officially lifted at approximately 8 p.m.
๐ฎ Mahwah Police said they believe there was no active threat on campus and indicated that the original report appeared to have been made with good intentions.
Authorities thanked the Ramsey Police Department and Upper Saddle River Police Department for assisting with the response.
๐ SECOND BERGEN COUNTY SCHOOL LOCKDOWN THURSDAY
Thursday's incident was the second reported lockdown involving Bergen County schools that day.
Earlier Thursday morning, Palisades Park Police investigated a separate report of a possible gunman near a public school. Three schools were temporarily placed under lockdown before that report was also determined to be unfounded.
