A pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car while fleeing ICE agents in Point Pleasant Beach Friday morning. Local police, who were not involved in the federal operation, are investigating the crash on Route 35.
The Point Pleasant Beach Police Department says a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle Friday morning while allegedly fleeing from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. Police responded at approximately 9:05 a.m. on July 31 to Route 35 North near the west side train station platform for a reported pedestrian crash. According to police, the individual entered the roadway while attempting to flee the ICE agents and was struck by a passing vehicle. The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was treated at the scene, and transported to a local hospital by the Point Pleasant First Aid and Emergency Squad. Point Pleasant Beach Police emphasized that the department was not involved in the ICE operation and was not aware of any enforcement activity taking place in the borough. Officers became aware of the situation only after being dispatched to the crash. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was notified. Further questions regarding the ICE operation are being directed to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security/ICE.
