🚨 PEDESTRIAN STRUCK, AIRLIFTED WITH LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES IN MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP
A 43-year-old Whiting man suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday night after a car struck him on County Route 530 in Manchester Township. Police say the man entered the roadway improperly before being airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
📍 MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A pedestrian was seriously injured Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of County Route 530 and Swift Circle in the Whiting section of Manchester Township.
According to police, officers responded around 9:37 p.m. on August 9 for reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. Investigators determined a gray 2013 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on CR 530 when the pedestrian entered the roadway in front of the vehicle.
The pedestrian, identified as 43-year-old Richard J. Fescharek of Whiting, was thrown approximately 50 feet following the impact. He sustained multiple potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by Life Flight helicopter. 🚁
The Camry’s driver, 63-year-old Rocco Lanzetti of Wrightstown, was not injured.
The roadway was partially closed for several hours while officers investigated the crash and crews completed cleanup. Police say improper pedestrian crossing appears to have been a contributing factor, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Assisting at the scene were Manchester EMS, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Accurate Towing.
The investigation is being handled by Patrolman Anthony DeBlasio of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. 🚔
