Police arrested a Paterson man Friday after he allegedly threatened to kill a Clifton grocery store employee with a realistic-looking BB gun. Adolfo Barrientos faces multiple charges, including terroristic threats and weapons possession, following the confrontation at Food Universe.
š CLIFTON, NJ ā A 40-year-old Paterson man is facing multiple charges after police say he entered a Clifton grocery store, threatened to kill an employee and displayed what appeared to be a handgun.
According to authorities, police responded to Food Universe on Lexington Avenue around 2 p.m. Friday following a report of a trespasser.
Police identified the suspect as Adolfo Barrientos, 40, of Paterson. Authorities said Barrientos had previously been involved in an incident at the store in June, when he allegedly created a disturbance and made threats. Police said he was warned not to return to the business.
When Barrientos allegedly returned Friday, employees asked him to leave. Police said he then claimed he had a gun and threatened to kill an employee.
Authorities allege Barrientos pulled what appeared to be a handgun, threw it onto the ground and then picked it back up.
š Employees called police, and Barrientos was arrested outside the business without incident.
The weapon was determined to be a realistic-looking black handgun that fires plastic pellets, according to authorities.
Barrientos was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, defiant trespass and terroristic threats. He was taken to the Passaic County Sheriff's Office Corrections Hub to await court proceedings.
ā ļø Realistic-looking BB and pellet guns can be difficult to distinguish from actual firearms and can create potentially dangerous situations when displayed during confrontations.
