Parsippany tax collector Terence Whalen was found dead inside his Town Hall office Wednesday morning. Police say no foul play is suspected, but the investigation into the 59-year-oldâs death is ongoing.
PARSIPPANY, NJ â A longtime Parsippany-Troy Hills tax collector was found dead inside the townshipâs municipal building Wednesday morning, according to police.
Authorities said a custodian contacted police at approximately 10:30 a.m. after discovering an unresponsive man inside an office at Parsippany Town Hall, 1001 Parsippany Boulevard.
Responding officers located 59-year-old Terence Whalen inside the building. He was later pronounced dead.
Police said as of Thursday afternoon that no foul play was suspected. Authorities have not released a cause or additional details surrounding Whalenâs death.
Whalen had served as Parsippanyâs tax collector since 2008. His responsibilities included overseeing the townshipâs Division of Collections, which handles property tax billing, water and sewer billing, delinquent tax collections and other related matters.
Whalen attended Morris Catholic High School before graduating from William Paterson University in Wayne.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, and additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
