Ocean County law enforcement will conduct a high-visibility traffic detail on Friday, September 4, to reduce crashes during the busy Labor Day weekend. Officers are participating in the statewide Goal: Zero initiative to prevent fatalities by targeting speeding and impaired driving.

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and local law enforcement agencies are joining forces Friday for a county-wide Goal: Zero high-visibility traffic enforcement detail aimed at reducing crashes, serious injuries, and roadway fatalities across New Jersey.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that officers will participate in the statewide initiative throughout the day and overnight hours on Friday, September 4, coinciding with the start of the busy Labor Day weekend travel period.
⚠️ According to the Prosecutor’s Office, 357 people have died on New Jersey roadways as of September 3, including 26 fatalities in Ocean County.
The enforcement effort comes as officials close out the summer travel season and the “106 Deadliest Days” between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Increased holiday traffic, pedestrian activity, celebrations, and the potential for impaired driving make the period particularly concerning for roadway safety.

“The goal remains simple: fewer crashes; fewer serious injuries; and ultimately, zero roadway fatalities in New Jersey,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.

The Goal: Zero campaign was launched in 2024 after Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky helped bring together 36 municipalities to focus on dangerous driving behaviors.
The campaign’s bright green logo represents high visibility, pedestrian safety, and school safety, while the black bar serves as a mourning band honoring those who have lost their lives in traffic crashes.
