🚨 NORTH PLAINFIELD MAN CHARGED IN FATAL MOUNTAINSIDE HIT-AND-RUN 🚔
A North Plainfield man faces vehicular homicide charges after allegedly driving drunk and killing a bicyclist in a hit-and-run on Route 22. Police arrested Fabian Parra three miles away from the Mountainside crash site shortly after the fatal collision.
MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — A 35-year-old North Plainfield man is facing criminal charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Cranford bicyclist, authorities announced.
The crash happened at approximately 7:28 p.m. on August 6, 2026, at the intersection of Route 22 and New Providence Road in Mountainside. Mountainside Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle striking a bicyclist and leaving the scene.
The victim, identified as 65-year-old Rocco Della Serra of Cranford, was struck while Parra was reportedly traveling westbound on Route 22.
According to investigators, Fabian Parra was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, ran a red light and struck Della Serra before continuing westbound.
Scotch Plains Police officers located Parra approximately three miles from the crash scene, where he was arrested.
Parra has been charged with:

Parra is currently being held at the Essex County Jail pending his next court appearance.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force or Mountainside Police.
