Newark police are searching for a man who struck a building employee in the face with a flowerpot on August 1. The suspect fled the scene after the attack, and authorities are now using surveillance footage to help identify him.
NEWARK, NJ ā Newark police are asking for the publicās help identifying a man accused of assaulting another man with a flowerpot inside an apartment building earlier this month.
According to the Newark Department of Public Safety, the incident happened around 9:47 p.m. on August 1 in the lobby of an apartment building in the 500 block of Kenneth A. Gibson Boulevard.
Police said the suspect entered through a rear entrance and was questioned by the buildingās concierge. The man allegedly became irate, picked up a flowerpot and threatened to throw it at the victim.
A building engineer reportedly attempted to calm the situation, but police said the suspect continued to escalate the confrontation.
Authorities said the suspect then threw the flowerpot directly at the victim, striking him in the face, before fleeing the building.
The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he was treated for a cut to his chin and a broken tooth.
š¹ Newark police released surveillance footage of the incident on Monday as investigators continue working to identify the suspect.
Police are seeking information from anyone who may recognize the man shown in the video.
