šš NEWARK POLICE ROUNDUP TARGETS WANTED SUSPECTS IN AUGUST ARRESTS āļøšØ
The Newark Department of Public Safety arrested 10 people in August during a crackdown on wanted suspects. The roundup targeted individuals facing charges for violent crimes including carjacking, robbery, and aggravated assault as part of a citywide effort to reduce crime.
NEWARK, NJ ā Newark authorities announced 10 arrests made throughout August as part of the city's latest effort to locate people wanted on a variety of criminal charges and outstanding warrants.
The Newark Department of Public Safety said the arrests included suspects wanted in cases involving aggravated assault, robbery, carjacking, weapons offenses, theft and terroristic threats.
š AUGUST ARRESTS INCLUDED:
š¹ Tayvon Hammond, 31, of East Orange ā arrested Aug. 4 on robbery and handgun-related weapons charges.
š¹ Nazir Johnson, 21, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 5 on robbery, conspiracy, weapons and criminal restraint charges.
š¹ Erick Urquilla, 25, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 7 on charges including carjacking, conspiracy and motor vehicle theft.
š¹ Willie Toliver, 38, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 17 on seven counts of aggravated assault, handgun-related offenses, criminal mischief and a prohibited-person weapons charge.
š¹ Djuan Johnson, 32, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 17 on aggravated assault, weapons and simple assault charges, along with multiple Newark warrants.
š¹ Kyle Wilson, 19, of Cranford ā arrested Aug. 18 on robbery, weapons and conspiracy charges.
š¹ Sife Smith, 24, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 21 on aggravated assault and simple assault charges, as well as an outstanding Jersey City warrant.
š¹ Quassim Y. Richardson, 32, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 25 on an aggravated assault charge.
š¹ Wayne Link, 48, of Newark ā arrested Aug. 26 on weapons, terroristic threat and simple assault charges, along with outstanding warrants from Newark and Harrison.
š¹ Tony Wardrick, 42, of Irvington ā arrested Aug. 28 on aggravated assault, simple assault, theft, failure to appear and multiple outstanding warrants.
š VIOLENT CRIME TREND
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said fugitive-related operations have remained an important part of the city's public safety efforts.
Newark officials reported an 8% decrease in violent crime between May and August compared with the same period in 2025.
The department says its fugitive investigations are aimed at locating individuals with outstanding warrants and bringing them before the courts.
