A multi-alarm fire destroyed several homes on Crescent Terrace in Belleville early Thursday morning. While residents escaped the blaze safely, officials reported that a nearby neighbor died after suffering an unrelated medical emergency during the incident.
BELLEVILLE, NJ β A large, multi-alarm fire tore through multiple homes in Belleville early Thursday morning, causing significant damage and leaving residents displaced.
The fire was reported at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Crescent Terrace, where flames spread to an adjacent property. One home reportedly collapsed, while another sustained extensive fire damage, including severe damage to its roof. Two backyard sheds on nearby Maier Street were also damaged.
π Multiple fire departments responded to battle the blaze, with mutual aid provided by crews from Bloomfield, Nutley, Newark and surrounding communities.
Fortunately, residents were reportedly able to escape the burning structures. The extent of injuries related to the fire was not immediately reported.

Belleville Mayor Frank VΓ©lez confirmed that a nearby resident suffered a medical emergency during the incident and later died.
The mayor emphasized that the death was not related to the fire, while expressing condolences to the resident's family and loved ones.
Township officials are coordinating with emergency responders and partner agencies to assist residents who were displaced by the devastating fire.
