ššæ MOUNT ARLINGTON MAN ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGED IMPAIRED DRIVING INCIDENT IN FAIRFIELD
Fairfield Police arrested a Mount Arlington man on Saturday night for allegedly driving while under the influence of marijuana. Officers pulled over the driver on Route 46 and discovered several cannabis products and drug paraphernalia inside his vehicle.

A 34-year-old Mount Arlington man was arrested in Fairfield after police allege he was driving while under the influence of cannabis.
According to the Fairfield Police Department, Officer Matthew Latesta was patrolling Route 46 East near the Hollywood Avenue overpass at approximately 11:23 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly observed a black Subaru Impreza cross over lane markings multiple times.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Daniel Castro, 34, of Mount Arlington.
Police said Castro allegedly displayed bloodshot and watery eyes. When questioned, he reportedly denied consuming alcohol but told the officer he had smoked marijuana.
Officers allegedly observed THC vaporizers and suspected marijuana remnants in plain view inside the vehicle. Castro was asked to exit the vehicle for standardized field sobriety testing, which police said he allegedly failed to complete satisfactorily.
Castro was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, and his vehicle was impounded pursuant to John's Law.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered six vaporizers containing suspected THC, two suspected marijuana roaches, multiple open containers of suspected raw marijuana, rolling papers and a grinder, according to police.
Castro was transported to the New Jersey State Police barracks in Totowa, where he submitted to breath samples. He was later returned to the Fairfield Police Department and evaluated by a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).
Police said the evaluation determined that Castro was allegedly under the influence of cannabis and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Castro was issued motor vehicle summonses for:

āļø Castro has a mandatory appearance scheduled for October 29, 2026, at 2:30 p.m., in Fairfield Municipal Court.
