MANASQUAN, NJ — August 22, 2026 — Swimming has been suspended at a Manasquan beach after more than 60 syringes washed ashore Saturday, prompting a coordinated response from local and county officials.
According to the Manasquan Office of Emergency Management, the situation is being managed in coordination with the Monmouth County Health Department and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).
🏖️ Swimming will remain prohibited until officials can determine that conditions are safe. Authorities plan to re-evaluate the situation early Sunday following two high-tide cycles.
Officials said an update will be provided before the beach is reopened to swimmers.
Residents and visitors are being urged to follow all lifeguard and beach safety directives and avoid contact with any syringes or other potentially hazardous materials found along the shoreline.
