New Jersey’s Green Acres Program acquired 22 acres of former farmland in Manalapan for $15 million. The land will expand Monmouth Battlefield State Park, preserving key Revolutionary War history and providing new space for public recreation and education.
📍 MANALAPAN, NJ — A significant piece of land adjacent to Monmouth Battlefield State Park has officially been preserved and added to the state park, expanding opportunities for recreation, education and historical preservation in Monmouth County.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announced that its Green Acres Program acquired the approximately 22-acre property along Route 33 in Manalapan for $15 million from Monmouth Battlefield Flex, LLC.
🏞️ The property, which was formerly used as a strawberry farm, includes open fields and wooded trails. It will now be managed by New Jersey State Parks.
Officials say the newly preserved land could eventually provide opportunities for:
🥾 Public recreation 📚 Educational programs 🇺🇸 Revolutionary War interpretation 🔎 Historical research 🌳 Preservation of open space
The acquisition comes as part of efforts to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary, while protecting land connected to the history of the Revolutionary War.
The property sits directly adjacent to the historic battlefield, where the Battle of Monmouth was fought during the American Revolution in June 1778.
