A 14-year-old from Mays Landing is facing multiple charges after authorities say he brought a handgun onto a school bus and allegedly displayed it to other students while riding home in Hamilton Township.

According to police, the incident was reported on July 29, prompting an immediate investigation. The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention facility.

Investigators say the firearm had not been properly secured inside a residence, allowing the teen to gain access to it. As a result, a 39-year-old Mays Landing man has also been charged with multiple offenses, including child endangerment, evidence tampering, and allowing a minor access to a loaded firearm.

The juvenile faces numerous charges related to the alleged possession of a handgun and ammunition, making threats, aggravated assault, and possessing a firearm on school property. Police also confirmed that all firearms recovered from the residence have been seized and secured as part of the investigation.
