The New York Jets beat the Tennessee Titans 23-10 to secure their first season-opening win since 2023. Breece Hall rushed for 102 yards while quarterback Geno Smith debuted with 215 passing yards to lead the team to victory.
The New York Jets opened their 2026 NFL season with a convincing 23-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, giving the franchise its first season-opening victory since 2023.
šāāļø BREECE HALL LEADS THE WAY
Running back Breece Hall rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Geno Smith made a successful return to New York after being acquired from Las Vegas during the offseason.
Smith completed 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards, efficiently operating new offensive coordinator Frank Reich's offense.
The Jets never trailed and took a 10-3 lead into halftime after rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq scored a touchdown.
ā±ļø New York controlled possession for nearly 39 minutes and finished with a 367-195 advantage in total offense. The Jets also put together a 19-play drive that consumed nearly 12 minutes in the first half.
š”ļø DEFENSE MAKES AN IMPACT
The Jets defense consistently pressured Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward, recording three sacks.
Rookie edge rusher David Bailey, the No. 2 overall pick, recorded one of those sacks, while veteran linebacker Demario Davis led the defense in tackles. Free-agent addition Kingsley Enagbare also recorded a sack.
Ward finished 19 of 32 for 140 yards, adding a late touchdown pass to Elic Ayomanor.
šÆ SANDERS CONNECTS FROM LONG RANGE
Jason Sanders handled kicking duties for New York and connected on field goals from 33, 51 and 52 yards.
š A NEW START IN NEW YORK
The victory comes as the Jets continue their effort to turn around a franchise that has endured a lengthy playoff drought. Head coach Aaron Glenn earned his first season-opening win with New York.
The loss marked a disappointing start for Titans head coach Robert Saleh, who previously coached the Jets from 2021 until being fired during the 2024 season.
šļø TITANS HONOR CHRIS JOHNSON
Tennessee also honored former running back Chris Johnson, who was inducted into the Titans' Ring of Honor. Johnson, nicknamed CJ2K, became the sixth player in NFL history to rush for at least 2,000 yards in a season. He announced in June that he had been diagnosed with ALS.
š„ INJURY UPDATE
The Jets lost safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to a groin injury and rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. to an ankle injury. Neither player returned to the game.
The Jets will return home next Sunday for their home opener against the Green Bay Packers on September 20.
