š° HUMAN REMAINS IDENTIFIED AS MISSING LOWER TOWNSHIP MAN
Authorities have identified human remains found in a wooded area of Middle Township as Benjamin J. Beason, a Lower Township man reported missing in 2024. The Cape May County Prosecutorās Office is still investigating the cause and manner of his death.
CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ ā September 2, 2026 ā Human remains discovered earlier this year in a wooded area of Middle Township have been positively identified as those of 42-year-old Benjamin J. Beason of Lower Township, authorities announced Wednesday.
Beason was reported missing to the Lower Township Police Department on May 22, 2024.
According to the Cape May County Prosecutorās Office, a resident walking through a wooded area in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township on March 3, 2026, discovered what appeared to be a human skull and immediately notified police.
A coordinated search involving law enforcement and search-and-rescue personnel led to the recovery of additional skeletal remains.
The New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit examined the remains, with the findings later forwarded to the Southern Regional Medical Examinerās Office. The examination ultimately confirmed the remains belonged to Beason.
š The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
The Cape May County Prosecutorās Office, Middle Township Police Department and Lower Township Police Department say the investigation remains active. Officials stated additional information will be released as it becomes available.
