Michael Dunzello of Highlands faces murder charges after allegedly stabbing his roommate, Angus McDougald, on Monday evening. Police found McDougald with fatal wounds at a home on North Street, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
📍 HIGHLANDS, NJ — A 49-year-old local man is facing a murder charge following the fatal stabbing of his roommate Monday evening in Highlands, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said the Highlands Police Department responded to the area of the 20 block of North Street at approximately 5:58 p.m. on September 21, 2026, after receiving a report of a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim suffering from two stab wounds. The victim, identified as 49-year-old Angus McDougald, was pronounced deceased.
Investigators with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and Highlands Police subsequently identified Michael Dunzello, 49, as the person allegedly responsible for the stabbing.
Dunzello has been charged with:
🔴 First-degree Murder 🔪 Third-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose — Knife
The case is being handled by Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Bogner, Director of the Major Crimes Bureau.
Dunzello is represented by attorney Thomas Huth of Freehold.
