🚔 HEIGHTENED TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PLANNED ACROSS MORRIS COUNTY FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND 🚔

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Motorists across the region can expect targeted, high-visibility traffic enforcement throughout the Labor Day holiday weekend as multiple law enforcement agencies work together to promote roadway safety. 🚨

The Mount Olive Township Police Department, along with the Roxbury Township, Washington Township, Hackettstown, Stanhope, Chester Township, Byram Township and Netcong police departments, as well as the Morris County Sheriff's Office, will coordinate enforcement efforts throughout the holiday weekend.

👮‍♂️ Officers will focus on: 🚗 Aggressive driving 💨 Speeding 📱 Distracted driving 🍺 Driving while intoxicated (DWI)

Officials say the initiative is designed to deter dangerous driving behaviors during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

📊 According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 511 people were killed in traffic crashes nationwide during the 2023 Labor Day holiday weekend. Officials said 36% of those fatalities involved a drunk driver.

New Jersey has also experienced deadly crashes during the holiday period. New Jersey State Police data shows that 41 people were killed on New Jersey roadways during the five Labor Day holiday periods from 2019 through 2023.

👮 Mount Olive Township Police Chief Cordileone said the goal of the coordinated enforcement is to deter impaired driving, speeding, aggressive driving and other dangerous behaviors before they result in serious crashes.
