🚨 HAWTHORNE MAN CHARGED IN ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 80-YEAR-OLD WOMAN

Hawthorne police arrested 54-year-old John Schweininger for the alleged sexual assault of an 80-year-old household member. Authorities say the victim was physically helpless, and prosecutors have asked a judge to keep the defendant in jail pending trial.
📍 HAWTHORNE, NJ — A 54-year-old Hawthorne man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an 80-year-old woman who prosecutors say was physically helpless due to her infirmities.
According to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Hawthorne Police were notified around 11:15 p.m. Saturday that John Schweininger had allegedly engaged in nonconsensual sexual acts with the woman.
Authorities said the victim was a member of Schweininger’s household.
⚖️ Schweininger was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact.
Investigators with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Hawthorne Police subsequently obtained an arrest warrant.
🚔 Schweininger was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near Mountain Avenue and Lewis Street in Haledon, prosecutors said.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has asked a judge to keep Schweininger detained while the criminal case moves forward.
⚠️ The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
