📍 OLD BRIDGE, NJ — A Freehold Township man and former New Jersey corrections officer has been sentenced to five years in state prison for a 2022 drunk-driving crash that killed a 69-year-old Old Bridge pedestrian.

John DeTulio, 41, was sentenced on August 28 after previously pleading guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter. According to the reported case, DeTulio will not be eligible for early release and will have his driver's license suspended for nine years.

The fatal crash happened at approximately 1:25 a.m. on January 28, 2022, on Route 9 near Ferry Road in Old Bridge.

According to the case, DeTulio was driving at a high rate of speed while under the influence of alcohol when his vehicle struck Harvey Berse, 69, of Old Bridge, who was walking along Route 9.

🚨 Berse was subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the crash, DeTulio was employed as a senior corrections officer at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton. He has since been terminated from his position.
