Former Cape May County official Anthony Robinson was arrested for allegedly billing fire departments for training already covered by federal grants. The sixty-seven-year-old faces theft and forgery charges following an investigation into his private company and use of public funds.
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE, NJ — A former Cape May County official has been arrested following a lengthy investigation into alleged theft and forgery involving HAZMAT-related training and grant funding, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities identified the suspect as Anthony Robinson, 67, of Lower Township, who was previously employed by Cape May County as the Director of the CBRNE Task Force.
🔎 Investigators with the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit determined that Robinson allegedly created and used a Limited Liability Company (LLC) to conduct HAZMAT-related training for various fire departments and companies throughout Cape May County.
According to investigators, the departments were allegedly billed by the LLC for training that was also grant-funded through the Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness Grant on the same dates.
⚖️ ARREST & CHARGES
Robinson was arrested on Thursday, September 3, 2026, and charged with:
• Third-degree theft • Two counts of fourth-degree forgery
Following processing, Robinson was released on a summons pending further court proceedings.
🏠 As part of the investigation, members of the Major Crimes Unit also executed a court-authorized search warrant at Robinson’s residence in the Briarwood Drive area of Lower Township.
Officials said a conviction for a third-degree crime can carry a potential 3-to-5-year state prison sentence under New Jersey law.
