🚨 Fatal E-Bike Crash Under Investigation in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — August 18, 2026 — The Franklin Township Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving an e-bike that claimed the life of an adult male Saturday afternoon.

According to Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks, officers were dispatched around 1:28 p.m. on August 15 to the intersection of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road following reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from serious injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. 💔🚑

🚨 Preliminary Investigation

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the victim was operating an e-bike southbound on Route 27 when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle that was making a left turn from northbound Route 27 onto South Middlebush Road.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

Director Fredericks extended condolences to the victim's family and loved ones while urging both motorists and e-bike riders to exercise caution as e-bike use continues to increase throughout the community.

Officials are also reminding riders and motorists to remain alert, follow traffic laws and familiarize themselves with current New Jersey requirements regarding e-bike operation, including applicable licensing, registration and helmet requirements. 🚲⚠️
