East Brunswick Police arrested a Newark man Sunday after he fled from a stolen car on Route 18 and burglarized a vehicle. Veelique Farrior-Harris faces multiple charges including burglary and resisting arrest following a short pursuit through a local neighborhood.
š EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ ā What began as a routine call about a disabled vehicle on Route 18 quickly turned into a police pursuit Sunday afternoon, according to the East Brunswick Police Department.
Officers responded around 2:43 p.m. to Route 18 southbound near Eggers Street after receiving reports of a disabled vehicle. Police said Good Samaritans had already helped move the vehicle to a safer location before officers arrived.
When the driver noticed police, authorities said he ran from the scene, prompting officers to begin a search.
Investigators subsequently determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen. Police identified the suspect as Veelique Farrior-Harris, 23, of Newark.
š® While officers continued searching, police said a resident on University Road flagged them down and reported that a person matching the suspect's description had entered a vehicle parked in a driveway.
According to police, Farrior-Harris allegedly took cash from inside the vehicle after seeing officers and fled the area again.
Officers later located him behind the Lake Avenue apartments, where police said he attempted to flee once more before being quickly apprehended.
Farrior-Harris was charged with:

East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco said officers worked together to locate and apprehend the suspect while protecting the surrounding community.
ā ļø The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
