A 55-year-old Brick Township woman faces vehicular homicide charges after her SUV struck a motorcycle head-on in Pennsylvania, killing two people. She told police a bug flew into her vehicle, causing her to lose control and veer into oncoming traffic.
BRADY, PA โ A 55-year-old Brick Township woman is facing multiple charges following a head-on crash in western Pennsylvania that claimed the lives of two people riding a motorcycle.
According to court records and reports, Bernadette Ann Cobb was driving a 2021 Nissan Rogue eastbound on Route 219 in Brady, Clearfield County, on August 12 when her SUV crossed into the opposing lane and struck a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle head-on.
The motorcycleโs driver, Anthony M. Sones, 34, and passenger, Miranda S. Wormuth, 30, both died as a result of the collision.
Investigators say Cobb told Pennsylvania State Police that a bug flew into her SUV through an open window, causing her to panic. She reportedly lowered her head and attempted to swat at the insect, causing her to lose control of the vehicle and cross into the oncoming lane. Her passenger reportedly attempted to regain control of the SUV but was unable to avoid the motorcycle.
๐ Authorities reported that there were no indications Cobb was impaired at the time of the crash.
Cobb has been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, along with aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and additional traffic offenses.
She was initially held in the Clearfield County Jail but has since been released on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
