On the anniversary of September 11, we honor those lost when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. The nation remembers the victims, their families, and the brave first responders who acted during the coordinated terrorist attacks in 2001.
At 9:37 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the west side of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.
The attack struck the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, killing passengers and crew aboard the aircraft as well as people inside the Pentagon.
The crash was part of the coordinated terrorist attacks carried out on September 11, 2001, as the nation continued to face the unfolding tragedy in New York City.
Today, we remember the lives lost at the Pentagon, aboard Flight 77, and throughout the attacks. We honor the first responders, military personnel, emergency workers and civilians who showed courage during one of the darkest days in American history.
