Police are investigating after a 9-year-old boy was allegedly left alone on a school bus after falling asleep Thursday morning. The child was found wandering a Blackwood parking lot by a district employee, and authorities are now reviewing surveillance footage.
📍 BLACKWOOD, NJ — Police are reviewing surveillance footage as they investigate how a 9-year-old boy was allegedly left alone on a school bus after arriving for summer school in Gloucester Township.
According to the child's mother, Wanda Chandler, her son boarded a school bus at approximately 8:00 a.m. Thursday to attend summer school at Union Valley Elementary School.
🚌 The boy reportedly fell asleep during the bus ride and later woke up alone on the bus several hours later.
According to his mother, the child then exited the bus and began walking around the bus lot while attempting to find someone who could help him.
👮 A school district employee reportedly discovered the child walking through the parking lot, asked for his name and age, and brought him inside the building.
🔎 Police are now reviewing surveillance video in an effort to establish a timeline and determine how the child came to be left on the bus.
The school district has reportedly not responded to requests for comment regarding the incident.
